Founded by iida tulkki, tulkki studio is a multidisciplinary practice, evolving in the fields of architecture, design, teaching and scenery.

Tulkki stands for interpreter in Finnish. That is also our way to see our professional task. We aim for an overall consistancy of our projects by synthetising and translating it’s user’s needs, it’s immediate environment and more global topics linked to each site.

As practitionners, we work within a specific relationship to the act of building regarding our mutating world and its saturated territories. We believe that contemporary architecture must support a humble posture in order to serve the common good.

On a smaller scale, we also work on exhibition sceneries and interior design projects with the same discipline and interest. That concerns the aesthetical qualities of our projects as well as their functionnal and technical characteristics.

Our design process is deeply linked to a sensitive and practical understanding of the existing contexts.

As architects, we believe in well built buidings with a profound interest in developping construction details. We are looking for sustainable solutions that are able to impact an existing site’s dynamic, not only through built structures but also with the implementation of lighter spatial devices.

Vegetation, fabrics, light and signage are parts of our toolbox as well as furniture design and construction. We aim to anchor each of our works into it’s own narrative, writing a story that enhances what is already here.
